YANNICK by Quentin Dupieux

With Raphaël Quenard, Pio Marmaï, Blanche Gardin, Sébastien Chassagne

Sophie, Paul and William are in the middle of a performance of their play “Le cuckold”. The audience seems to be having fun... but Yannick is not laughing. Exasperated, he gets up and shouts at the actors, asking to be entertained. Rejected and ridiculed, the parking attendant leaves the room, only to return a few minutes later with a weapon. Yannick demands that the troupe change the subject of the play and, when they refuse, he begins to write lines, and even a script! The actors are hesitant to play this new score, except that they have no choice but to comply.

Ciné-Quartier presents YANNICK  by Quentin Dupieux in the original French version on Sunday, August 4 at 2 p.m., and Wednesday, August 7 at 7 p.m.

In a sober production that leaves plenty of room for the expansion of his ideas and the talent of his actors, Quentin Dupieux takes barely 67 minutes to present many discomforts faced by today's cultural industry reinforcing century-long debates about elitism, subjectivity, accessibility and the social mission of art. (Anne-Frédérique Hébert-Dolbec, Le Devoir, 5 janvier 2024)
