Ciné-Quartier hosts Damascus Dreams tomorrow night, Wednesday, October 25 at 7 p.m.
DAMASCUS DREAMS
by ÉMILIE SERRI
Documentary. Québec. 2022. 83 min. VO Arab-French-English with French subtitles(G)
In a reimagined coming-of-age story, Damascus Dreams follows a filmmaker’s journey to her inaccessible homeland. Weaving together her father’s memory, stories of refugees and her own imagination, Emilie composes a Syria that stands somewhere between reality and myth, dream and nightmare, past and present. "Émilie Serri has created a personal meditation on exile and uprooting. In this inventive and expressive production, numerous extracts from family films fit fluidly into a series of touching testimonies, marked by nostalgia, sadness and sometimes resignation." (Louis-Paul Rioux, Mediafilm)
