L’Hirondelle Gelato Artisanale is a small business based in Verdun, Montreal, offering gelato made in small batches from natural ingredients and sourced largely from Quebec producers.

A passion for ice cream, a deep need to create, and a sensitivity to refined sugars and lactose led me to make gelato where taste and ingredient quality reign supreme. All our gelatos are sweetened partially or entirely with maple sugar, a healthier, natural alternative to cane sugar. Furthermore, many of our flavors, other than sorbets, are dairy-free.
My name is Sara-Claude and I invite you to discover the fruit of my frozen research. A passion that took me to Italy in November 2024 for an intensive gelato course in the heart of Tuscany.
Their story:
It was during the winter of 2025 that we felt the need to take the plunge into entrepreneurship, after three years of experimentation and a trip. (as well as a pregnancy with a pickle-ice cream flavor… ; )
Like the swallow, gelato is a symbol of summer. If you've ever been to Verdun, you may have noticed the large birdhouses planted along the river. These nesting boxes, created specifically for swallows, inspired the company's name. They blend playfully into the landscape but take on their full meaning when you know they aim to help this declining species nest.
And that is why we invite you to enjoy the summer and the magnificent scenery of the Verdun riverbanks, a gelato in hand, and why not, to visit the website of Québecoiseau.org, the organization behind these nest boxes, which contributes to the maintenance of this delightful landscape and to our quality of life!
" It was the desire to create a project related to our environment that motivated us. "
