Tenants of Verdun Unite - Organize to stay here!

May 16 @ 18:30 20:45

This cinematic evening features two short films about housing presented free by the Verdun branch of SLAM- MATU (Montreal Autonomous Tenants Union), CACV (Citizen Action Committee of Verdun) and Ciné Quartier.

Projection of two short
films
JUSTE UN TOIT (Just a roof)  de Emmanuel Rioux (19 min)

Juste un Toit explores the painful and uprooting experience of eviction in Verdun, our neighbourhood. The housing crisis had many faces. Those of Jeannette and Frances drive us into the difficult experience of eviction. During many months of anxiety, brief hopes and uprooting, Jeannette and Frances fight, alone and surrounded, against a growing phenomenon: the forced loss of one’s home.

THIS IS PARKDALE  by Sub.Media (35 min)

This film explores the successful activism by tenants from multiple buildings, which was the inspiration for SLAM to form.

A discussion on mobilization, housing and solidarity among tenants will follow the screening.

We invite you to make a voluntary contribution to help cover the costs of organizing the screening (venue rental, technical support, and film royalties). Proceeds will be shared between SLAM and Ciné-Quartier.
